Shannon is the founder and president of Pandora's
Aquarium, Inc., a non-profit organization that
operates an online support group, message board,
and chat room for survivors of rape, sexual abuse,
and sexual assault. Pandora's Aquarium, Inc. has
served countless survivors, educators, and supporters
since its inception. Shannon is a survivor of acquaintance
rape and began the organization when she was 19
years old and healing from her own experience with
sexual violence.
Shannon is also a trained public speaker. She joined
Team
Soar in 2007, and has been a member of RAINN's
Speakers Bureau since 1999. She has appeared on
ABC
News 20/20 and was featured in The Buffalo
News and The Lincoln Journal Star. In 2001, Shannon
was photographed for The Faces of Rape & Sexual
Abuse Survivors Project. She has facilitated multiple
violence training presentations on college campuses
throughout Minnesota and was a keynote speaker
in 2005 for Union College's Take Back the Night
in New York. She was also interviewed about Pandora's
Aquarium on the Satellite Sisters radio show in
2007.
Shannon resides in Minneapolis, MN with her husband.
Before going to law school, she spent a year in
India working on development projects, primarily
with children with mental handicaps. She is a licensed
attorney, devoted to justice in many forms.
